University Product Description and Principal Function(s) The Ladybird is a compact free-standing Basin and Bath unit, intended for apartment living where limited space is a problem. The basin of the Ladybird can be removed to reveal a tub within, making it ideal for petite bathrooms.The bath is designed to be smaller in size than the Western style bathtub, so that it is an intimate space that holds less water, similar to a Japanese tub. In addition, the unit subtly integrates a step for ease of access when entering and exiting, which retracts when not in use and opens out with a simple 'push' action when required. Why does the product represent design excellence and why do you believe it deserves an Australian Design Award? With the ever-present issue of smaller living spaces in mind, the Ladybird bath and vanity unit was devised. Upon recognition that the normal western sized bathtub consumed a great deal of space, the issue of water consumption was also apparent. By looking at market trends, it’s ironic that in a desperately water conscious world, bathtubs on the current market are getting larger and larger. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese Soak Tubs (Ofuro), the Ladybird was the ideal solution for both concerns.It’s unique and impressive design combines both vanity and bath into one stylish element for your bathroom. The vanity unit with built in sink lifts away to reveal a cocoon-like tub, in which you can wash away the fatigues and strains of the day. The base of the bath has a slight incline to allow residue from the basin to drain away freely and comes with a retractable push step to allow easy access when entering and exiting. The basin is made from strong but lightweight plastic, to ensure that it is hardwearing and effortless to remove. As a whole, the bath can be manufactured relatively inexpensively, using vacuum formed ABS plastics. The Ladybird is a cost effective product that is ideal for young families, professionals and students, as it eliminates the need to purchase and maintain two separate items, while still allowing people the freedom to bathe without the need for a large bathroom. It is simple to use, very practical and presented in three bright bold colours that are modern, fun and appeal to a young market. |
